UN trade agency certifies 19 port managers in Ghana

VesselNineteen managers from Ghana’s two ports, Tema and Takoradi, have earned the UN Modern Port Management Certificate, the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) announced today May 10, 2013.

The graduates were middle-level managers from public and private entities operating at the two ports.

“The candidates successfully defended their final dissertations for the TrainForTrade Port Training Programme on April 9 and 10,” the UN trade agency said in a statement.

According to UNCTAD, the dissertations were defended before panels of experts that included representatives from UNCTAD and the Port of Cork (Ireland), as well as senior managers from Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA).

The UNCTAD Port Training Programme supports port communities in developing countries in their efforts to provide efficient and competitive port management services.
