China has donated 62,000 masks and over 19,000 pieces of PPEs, together with other critical medical equipment to Zimbabwe.
The news was announced by the Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe. “My pleasure to handover the donation to our Zimbabwean friends. Together we will sail past this storm.” The Ambassador wrote on twitter.
According to the Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe, China has donated over 432,000 masks, more than 21,000 testing kits, and more than 75,000 pieces of protective gear to Zimbabwe.
Zimbabwe expressed gratitude to China for the kind gesture and to the Chinese medical team for the practical advice and suggestions in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
China and some African countries are collectively fighting the COVID-19 pandemic and its multifaceted effects on the continent. In light of this, China has donated medical equipment and sent medical expertise to African countries like Ghana and Nigeria to fight covid-19.
On April 17, 2020, 60 scholars from 27 think tanks hailing from China as well as 14 African countries came together through an international video conference to propose a framework where China and Africa can work together bilaterally and multilaterally to combat COVID-19.
China also proposed support to Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention to enable them to bolster health infrastructure and health systems on the continent.
