The US Embassy in Accra, Ghana has revealed that over one million Ghanaians applied for the 2015 Diversity Visa (DV) programme, popularly referred to as US Visa Lottery.
Of the one million Ghanaians applicants, about 2000 were selected, the embassy revealed on Accra-based radio station, Citi FM.
This represented 0.65 per cent of the applicants.
The revelation comes as the US launched the 2016 Diversity Visa (DV) programme, which is expected to facilitate the immigration of about 50, 000 people to the US.
Ghana is eligible to participate and contest for up to seven per cent of the available slots. This means about 3,500 Ghanaians can be selected for the 2016 programme
About one million people worldwide have immigrated to the US as a result of the Diversity Visa programme since 1990.
