UNICEF, Japan government fund $1.5m cholera project in Ghana

HandwashingUNICEF and the Japanese government have announced a $1.5 million project to address cholera in Ghana.

According to the two the project ‘will help prevent and respond to cholera outbreaks in Ghana.’

“The Cholera Prevention and Response Project will bring safe water to 35,000 people, support 250,000 people to access sanitation and give families and health workers the skills to prevent and diagnose cholera. It will also improve the capacity of emergency response teams during outbreaks of the disease,” they have said.

Citing reports, UNICEF said in 2012, Ghana recorded more than 9,500 cases of cholera with 100 deaths.
