The Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Mrs. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, has been honoured at the Weizo 2015 conference in Accra.
The Minister was adjudged the West African Tourism person of the year by the African Travel Market, organisers of the Akwaaba in Lagos, Nigeria.
She was honoured for championing the ‘Destination Africa’ through Ghana’s participation in International Tourism and Travel Fairs and Conventions, and for prolonging and improving tourism.
She was also commended for championing the collection of the one percent Tourism Levy culminating in the expansion of the Tourism Development fund, which was established to develop the industry.
Mrs Ofosu Adjare dedicated the award to President Mahama for the confidence reposed in her, in leading the needed change in the tourism drive for the development of the country.
She also dedicated the award to her family who understood her desire to work for the betterment of Ghana.
Mrs Ofosu Adjare also lauded the contributions of the 14 agencies under the Ministry for their support in achieving the feat.
She called for activation of seamless travel in West Africa to develop the tourism sector in the Sub region.
