United States (U.S.) Ambassador to the United Nations, Samantha Power, is travelling to Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ghana and Belgium from October 25 to October 30.
A release from the Public Affairs section of the U.S Embassy in Accra signed by Mrs Joyce Asiedu, Information Assistant, and copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Monday, said Ambassador Power was travelling to West Africa, including the three countries most affected by the Ebola crisis, to demonstrate U.S. support for those nations and their efforts to combat the deadly disease.
The trip is also meant to draw attention to the need for increased support for the international response.
“While in the region, Ambassador Power will visit national Ebola coordination centers, meet with U.S. personnel on the ground from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, USAID and the Department of Defense, discuss international efforts to combat Ebola with senior government officials and civil society, and coordinate with representatives from the UN Mission for Ebola Emergency Response (UNMEER), the first-ever UN emergency health mission, and other UN leaders”, the release said.
It added that in Brussels, Ambassador Power will meet with European Union and Belgian officials about international efforts to combat the Ebola virus and deliver remarks at the German Marshall Fund to discuss her visit to the Ebola-affected region, and the need for a robust, coordinated response.
