Mr Kojo Amoo Gottfried, the President of the Ghana-China Friendship Association (GHACHIFA), says millions have been lifted out of poverty, as a result of the cooperation between Ghana and China.
Mr Amoo Gottfried said this at a ceremony to inaugurate Mr. Tang Hong, the new President of the Chinese Community in Ghana.
In 2015, China-Ghana trade hit 6.6 billion dollars, ranking 6th in Africa, whilst China’s non-direct investment in Ghana reached 174 million dollars, ranking fourth in Africa.
This raised China’s investment in Ghana to 1.3 billion dollars, which is the 14th highest in Africa.
Mr Amoo Gottfried said the key agenda of the Ghana-China Friendship Association was to contribute its quota towards strengthening relations between Ghana and China.
“China is very important to us here in Ghana, as we stand to gain greatly from their virtuous attributes such as punctuality and hard work, amongst a number of others,” he said.
Mr Amoo Gottfried said with good collaboration China and Ghana would continue to forge ahead in mutual progress.
Mr. Tang Hong said he would try his best to improve the bilateral relation.
He said he would also ensure that that the Chinese in Ghana had cordial relations with their Ghanaian hosts by being law abiding and impress upon Chinese business people and organisations to abide by the rules and regulations of Ghana.
“When Chinese businesses and organisations in the country perform excellently, it rubs off well on Ghana too,” he said.
Madam Sun Baohong, the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, was the Guest of Honour for the occasion.
