The Chinese Government on Friday presented preventive materials against Ebola worth five million yuan RMB ($ 817, 938) to the Government of Ghana for its preparation work and responses against the virus.
The materials included protective equipment, sprayers, non-contact infrared body thermometers and body temperature detectors.
Mrs Sun Boahong, the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, speaking at the presentation ceremony in Accra said the donation would help strengthened Ghana’s preparation work and response to Ebola.
She said the materials presented were under the China Emergency Aid Supplies Against Ebola programme.
She said the materials were part of China’s third batch of assistance providing to high risk countries, which could be attacked by the virus.
Mrs Boahong said the donation though limited in figure had reflected the profound sentiments the Chinese people had for their Ghanaian counterparts.
She said from April to September, this year, the Chinese Government had conducted three batches of aid totalling $41 million not only to affected countries but also relevant African countries.
The Ambassador commended Ghana for its exemplary role in assisting its neighbours in fighting against Ebola.
She also commended President John Dramani Mahama for decisively agreeing to use Ghana as a base to transfer health personnel and relief items to affected countries and accommodating the United Nations Ebola Response Multi-Partner Trust Fund.
“China and Africa are a community of shared destiny,” she added.
Dr Kwaku Agyemeng-Mensah, Minister of Health said the donation would go a long way to give impetus, motivation and assurance to health workers, who had sacrificed to be trained.
He commended the Chinese Government for the continuous support in the areas of health and education.
He appealed to the public to take personal protection seriously and practice personal hygiene.
“We also encourage the public to follow all educational directives issued by the Ghana Health Service and other agencies on Ebola and Cholera,” he added.
