The operations at the Wa Offices of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) received a boost following the installation of new and up-to-date communication equipment.
The equipment valued at GHc45,000 was sponsored by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) with the aim of facilitating both internal and external communications of the agency in the region.
The equipment include two desk top computers, one printer, a scanner, a server and internet connectivity to link all staff to enable them store and retrieve information.
Inaugurating the project, the head of internal communications at EPA, Ms Helen Asiamah said the project was being implemented across all regional offices of the agency in the country.
According to her the difficulty they often encounter as an agency is the area of monitoring and dissemination of information both inter and intra and that has necessitated the implementation of the project.
She added that the donation will go a long way to facilitate communication activities of the agency.
Ms. Asiamah said the project was worked out by the National Information Technology Agency (NITA) and had already been installed in all the ten regional offices of the agency with the last being in the Upper West Region.
She noted that with the completion of the installation, all ten regions will be interconnected and this would go a long way to improve efficiency and effectiveness of the agency’s operations.
On his part, the Chairman of the project implementation team, Mr. Joseph Afariga urged staff of the regional office to take very good care of the communication equipment while making good use of it.
He said there was the need for the EPA to justify the investment made by putting the equipment to good use in order to motivate the sponsors to do more for the agency.
Mrs. Zenabu Wasai King the regional manager of the EPA said the installation of the communication equipment would cut down cost especially on stationery since it would reduce paper use at the office.
Mrs. Zenabu Wasai thanked the EPA, CIDA, NITA and the project implementation team for the project and assured that it would be put to good use to justify the investment made.
