Israel commits to aid Ghana in agriculture

farming-in-ghanaIsrael’s Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development has ended a two-day official visit to Ghana with a commitment to lead in bringing Israelis experts to help transform the agricultural sector.

The Minister, Mr Yair Shamir, also expressed commitment of his country to help propel growth and development of Ghana’s economy through strategic investments and technological transfer.

This was contained in a statement signed by Ms Mina Okuru, Public Diplomacy Coordinator of the Embassy of Israel, and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra on Friday.

As part of activities marking his visit, Mr Shamir called on President John Dramani Mahama and also held bilateral meeting with the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Mr  Kofi Humado.
The statement quoted Mr Humado as having expressed Ghana’s interest in the development of the irrigation sector through Israeli experience and technology and requested Israeli support in capacity building.

The statement said the two Ministers also discussed ways through which Israel could enjoy Ghanaian tropical fruits and tuna fish exports.
The two nations discussed collaboration on the training of fisheries extension officers and the future involvement of Israeli fisheries private and public sectors in the five-year upgrade program of the fisheries sector in Ghana.
