Mr.NayanBilijo, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, has said Ghana was committed to cooperating with Libyan authorities in their quest to fulfill the aspirations of the Libyan people for a democratic country.
He said Ghana and Libya have maintained strong political and economic bonds, dating back to decades, following the re-establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Mr.Bilijo was speaking at an event to mark the third Anniversary of the 17th February Revolution of the State of Libya on in Accra.
He said the ties between the two countries have characterized by high level visits from both sides, leading to deepened awareness and appreciation of our commonalities, as well as our diversities as a people.
Mr.Bilijo said both countries on the economic front continue to work towards improving bilateral trade and investment, and that since the establishment of the Ghana-Libya Joint Commission of Co-operation in 1985, nine sessions have been held alternating between Accra and Tripoli.
Mr.Bilijo noted that the two countries have signed various Agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MOU) in the fields of education, research and employment.
“At the ninth session both sides agreed to fast-track the signing of MOU on economic and commercial matters, energy, investment, agriculture and health as well as the maritime sector.”
Mr.AzzamMuktarSassi, Charged D’ Affairs of the Libyan Embassy in Ghana, said the Libyan Transitional Government is calling on friendly countries around the world to help the interim government develop the country.
He said the entire Libyan people were subjected to injustice, suppression and dictatorship for more than four decades during the rule of Muhammad Al-Qathafi.
He said these humiliations and degradation were not tolerated by the proud Libyan people, and thus sacrificed dozens of thousands of their sons as martyrs, including the wounded and the missing who shed their blood and had been able to eradicate the injustice.
Mr.Sassi said the injustice was a hall mark of the late Qathafi’s regime, and finally became victorious over this dictator.
