Mr. Charles Xavier-Luc Duval, Vice Prime Minister of Mauritius will lead a high level business delegation for a three-day state visit to Ghana.
The visit, which will run from May 21 – May 23 is aimed to consolidate partnerships between the private sector of Mauritius and Ghana and to seek areas of further collaboration.
The visit will also enable the two countries to identify opportunities and to define a roadmap for the development of nominal skills in the garment industry for young Ghanaian female porters to serve at the Mauritian garment sector.
It is also be used to launch a special collaboration between the Ghanaian and Mauritian Stock Exchanges.
Whilst in country Mr. Duval will call on President John Dramani Mahama, hold meetings with some Ministers of State and the leadership of Parliament as well as attend a business forum on May 22.
The business forum will present a common platform for the Mauritian delegation to engage the Ghanaian business community to discuss investment potential, joint ventures, strategic alliances, franchising and project financing in the banking, financial services, construction, textiles, information communication technology, insurance and agri-business sectors.
Twenty eight companies drawn from the different sectors will attend the forum.
Mr. Duval, who is the current Minister of Finance and Economic Development, was appointed Vice Prime Minister of Mauritius in August 2011. He was previously Minister of Industry and Tourism in 1995, Minister of Industry, Commerce, Corporate Affairs and Financial Services from 1999-2000,Minister of Tourism, Leisure and External Communications from 2005 to 2010, and the Minister of Social Integration and Economic Empowerment from 2010 to 2011.
In 2012, Mr. Duval received the Distinguished Foreign Business Leadership Award by the Villanova Business School of the University of Villanova in Philadelphia, USA. The same year, he was also designated African Finance Minister of the year both by African Leadership Magazine and Africa Investor. In 2013, Mr Duval was also awarded the African Finance Minister title by Africa Investor.
In April, this year he was awarded the Southern African Economic Development Champion Award by Africa Leadership Magazine and also received the Special Commendation Award from the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus of Georgia General Assembly.
This Special Commendation is the highest award presented by the Georgia Legislative body in honour of outstanding contribution and service to humanity.
Mr. Duval was selected based on his outstanding contributions to the macro-economic stability, growth and national prosperity of Mauritius; and the creation and expansion of economic development opportunities for Africans.
