More Italian companies continue to show interest in doing business with Ghana, with the number of companies registered by the Italian mission in Accra increasing from 70 to 136 between last year and now, the Italian Ambassador to Ghana, Ms Laura Carpini, has said.
She also said more companies were expected to seek closer partnership with Ghanaian institutions and businesses “and it is for that reason that we are working on several economic missions, both here and in Italy, as Ghana plans to reach the middle-income country status next year”.
Ms Carpini was speaking at a reception in Kumasi to mark the 68th anniversary of the National Day celebrations of the Republic of Italy. She noted that as Ghana continued to enjoy economic growth, Italy stood by it as a good friend; both in its national capacity and as a member of the European Union.
The celebration of the Italian National Day has now become an annual affair in Kumasi since the Managing Director of Consar Construction, Mr Stefano Ramella Pezza was appointed the Honorary Consul in Ghana five years ago.
The Akyempemhene, Oheneba Adusei Poku, represented the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, at the function.
The ambassador added that Ghana and Italy would continue to share a common vision based on democracy and the rule of law, respect for human rights and international promotion of peace and multilateralism.
The Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr Samuel Sarpong, gave the assurance that Ghana would continue its good relations with Italy. He commended Italian companies, especially Consar Construction, which had put up many infrastructure in the country.
He, called on Italian companies, most of which used to be in the timber industry in the country to come back to Ghana and engage in the reforestation business.
