President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo met with Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev today as both leaders attended the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in Baku, Azerbaijan.
President Aliyev expressed appreciation to President Akufo-Addo for honouring Azerbaijan’s invitation, describing the visit as an important opportunity to deepen bilateral relations and explore mutual areas of cooperation. He highlighted COP29 as a suitable platform for advancing climate action and fostering international collaboration.
President Akufo-Addo commended Azerbaijan’s organisation of COP29, praising the smooth coordination of the event and congratulating the host country on a successful opening ceremony.
He expressed admiration for President Aliyev’s keynote address at the World Leaders Climate Action Summit, describing it as insightful and a testament to Azerbaijan’s commitment to climate action.
President Akufo-Addo shared that he had also gained insights into Azerbaijani culture during the event, which strengthened his appreciation of the host nation.
The discussions covered various avenues to strengthen economic and diplomatic ties, including cooperation in science, education, and business.
Both leaders highlighted the importance of fostering student exchanges, with Ghanaian students currently studying in Azerbaijan expressing satisfaction with their educational experience. To further promote economic cooperation, the presidents agreed on facilitating mutual visits of business and government delegations from both countries across diverse sectors.
