The Deputy Foreign Minister of Egypt H.E Hamdy Sanad Louza has called for a reinforcement of the bilateral relations between Ghana and Egypt.
He made this known in an exclusive meeting with the Diplomatic Team at the Movenpick Ambassador hotel in Accra during a 2 – day working visit in Ghana from the 18th of February to 20th of February 2014 .
According to Mr. Louza, even though both countries have very close traditional relations, it was time for a move beyond the memories of the “good old days” when the first president of Ghana, Kwame Nkrumah and the then President of Egypt Abdul Gamel Nasser shared a close relationship.
Mr. Louza explained that, that he chose to visit Ghana because of the country’s active diplomacy within the African Union and within the UN so as to explain what is happening in Egypt and to seek more understanding from Ghanaian authorities in order to help Egypt in regaining its constitutional order.
“Egyptian business community men have identified Ghana as an ideal destination for investment. They have seen an opportunity for cooperation between both countries and that is why we see the need to resume the fruitful and mutually beneficial relationsbetween both countries after it slightly declined in February 2011” he added.
“Most people look at Ghana because of the stable and positive investment environment of the country and we believe that there is a lot of possibility of cooperation between Ghana and Egypt which would see concrete results in the future” he further explained.
He also commended Ghana’s commitment to ensuring security in the sub-region through peace keeping missions, adding that Egypt was ready to work with Ghana to improve the security of both countries and the African continent as a whole.
He also revealed that, another reason for his visit is to clear the distorted information that some sections of the international media has been putting across adding that some of the negative reports to some extent dented the image of the country.
“There was damage for some time; some business men in Egypt were really affected and were therefore forced to look elsewhere for investments, but gradually they are coming back because people are discovering the truth about the situation in the country” he said.
He was however very adamant on accepting the fact that, Egypt was in crisis explaining that recent developments in the country was as a result of the revolution that took place.
“Every revolution comes with a period of instability. We have the confidence that we are on the right track, and we can say that we can see significant improvement in the stability of Egypt.” he said.
He therefore encouraged Ghanaians to visit Egypt to see for them the wonderful place that it is and not to rely on the gloomy picture being painted by some of the media about the country.
On his visit in Ghana, Mr. Hamdy Louza met with his colleague foreign minister in Ghana, Mr. Thomas Kwesi Quartey, to discuss how relations between both countries could be enhanced; and also visited the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum in Accra where he laid a wreath on the tomb of Ghana’s first president.
He is scheduled for Gabon where he will end his four-day visit to the West-African region of the continent.
